Repository of Standard / Typical Interview Questions: E-mail
Written by sbhuvans

Well, I do not mean to say it IS the standard, but it’s worth being prepared to face these questions when you are at an interview, as it reduces the chance of you being stumped, made to appear like the proverbial hare caught in the headlights. Friends, feel free to add to this list from your own experience.

Note: We are not offering any standard answers to these questions. They are just meant to be a check-list before facing the firing squad.

  • {mosgoogle}

  • A self-portrait of you in short, say in a few lines or few minutes (usually prepare one in < 10 sentences or < 2 minutes)

  • Your strengths (usually 3)

  • Your weaknesses (usually 3)

  • Questions based on facts from your CV - if you are not sure about what you have written in your own CV, then may God bless you!!!

  • About your projects (as seen from your CV)

  • Any special achievement in your life that you would particularly gloss about or feel proud / satisfied about - doesn't matter if it is technical or extra-curricular or voluntary

  • Any gaps in your CV

  • Explain your Thesis / Degree Project in terms of:

  • Aim

  • Action

  • Result

  • Level of your IT skills (on a scale of 1-10 or as 'just learnt / worked with / good experience')

  • Given a simulated / real-life problem, how will you go about solving it (Remember guys, most often it is rather about 'how' you solve it than 'what' the result is - the process rather than the result)

  • Questions about the company - Facts and Figures, Products, Customers, Special Achievements, etc.

  • Any questions? (The tricky part right at the fag end of the interview; you better prepare some questions, however dumb it may appear, instead of being the eternal yes-man who does not question anything. You appear more professional this way, asking questions. Usually it may be about the company, projects, etc.)

  • What do you expect from us (the company)? – not related to salary

  • What can you offer us (the company)?

  • Expected Salary

  • Are you mobile? If so, how mobile? (Reise-bereit?)

  • Ready to re-locate? (Umzugbereit?)

  • Preferred location of work?  Why? (Germany-wide? Europe-wide?)

  • Preferred area of work (Arbeitsumfeld)? Why?

  • If we can not offer you a job in this particular area, are you ready to work in other areas? Which areas? (This question usually arises when you are making a general / initiative application or to a consultancy, and even sometimes to an open position, if the company wants to keep you in mind for other positions in the future.)

  • Where else have you applied to? (The killer punch – be frank – but not too frank!!! Give them a list of 2 or 3 other companies, but always say that the status of your application there is “in process”. They may note the list down.)

  • All conditions being equal, what would be the deciding factor for you in case you get offers from more than one company? List any 3 in order of importance. (The best answer is to mention some factor that is best-suited to the company at hand!!!)

  • Why did you come to Germany in the first place? Why you studied Electrical Engineering (or as applicable)?

  • Your short-term / long-term goals. Where do you see yourself in the next 2 / 5 / 10 years?

  {mosgoogle}

Well, this is just a list from my experience. You may have more questions from your own experience or from your friends’. Please add to this list by posting them either in the ‘Comments’ section, or mail it to us. We will up-date the list, so every one may benefit from it.

Thanks and Best of Luck!!!

Cheers,

Bhuvan
